The Queen’s birthday is actually on 21 April (1926) but it is celebrated on different days across the commonwealth to fit in with their allocation of public holidays. New Zealand is one of the six largest of sixteen Commonwealth Realms within the Commonwealth of Nations, which was formerly known as the British Commonwealth.

There are some official events that occur on Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday and one of these events is the release of the Queen’s Birthday Honours’ List where the Queen makes appointments to the Order of New Zealand. This includes Orders, Orders of Merit, Dames, Knights, Companions, Officers and more. These appointments are usually based on a person’s services to the community or the nation.

The other special event of this public holiday is that it marks the official opening of the awesome ski season in New Zealand, something we are rather famous for. The ski fields are spectacular and have amazing terrains, wonderful scenery and many snow trails and admired resorts.

Very appropriately, and perhaps the pun was intended here, Queenstown, is situated on Lake Wakatipu which is at the foot of The Remarkables mountains, is one of the most well known ski destinations in the world. On this public holiday brings many people together for a wonderful winter holiday.

Hi Everyone!

Don’t judge a bin by its … well, ..by its usual occupation!

Here at Independent Bin Supplies, we are constantly coming across many different accounts of how our bins are used in different ways. Our customers come back and tell us some very surprising tales about the usefulness of our bins in very different applications. We have heard that our bins make great replacement feeding troughs for horses, and in some schools its even used as homes for worm farms!

So we thought we’d start collating some of these different applications and share them with you once in a while. Who knows, it might get you thinking of a different use for our bins that may come in handy!

Storing Outdoor Cushions and Sports Equipment

Our outdoor furniture and sometimes our sport equipment by the pool is taking a seasonal break! This is a great time to store them away in a nice secure, dry and clean space! Which is also easy to manoeuvre! Great for storing sports equipment too!

This particular wheelie bin pictured is a 660L bin, it has 4 wheels with 2 brakes and is fantastic for this time of year. You can store your outdoor squabs and cushions and wheel them around the back somewhere out of sight to keep clean and dry!

• Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
• That Mother’s Day is celebrated in over 40 countries in the world
• The dates fall on different days depending on country but the majority falls on the 2nd Sunday of May
• The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.
• Jarvis was successful in founding Mother’s Day but she became resentful of the commercialization of the holiday. By the early 1920s, Hallmark Cards and other companies had started selling Mother’s Day cards. Jarvis believed that the companies had misinterpreted and exploited the idea of Mother’s Day, and that the emphasis of the holiday was on sentiment, not profit.

It is a time to think about past wars and the commitment and sacrifice people have made in conflicts over our recent history and in the present. ANZAC Day is a day to remember those who served at Gallipoli and the Western Front in World War I as well as those who served in other conflicts and other wars. More than 30,000 New Zealanders who have died in campaigns all over the world. Let us remember on this day the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for the privilege of the freedom we currently enjoy.
